Today Pentax unveiled both the smallest weatherproof DSLR and the smallest weatherproof lens in the world. Together this makes a compact kit to produce high-quality images in adverse conditions.
The Pentax K-S2 is a compact DSLR with impressive features. Just like professional models, it boasts a large 100% coverage viewfinder, dual control-dials and a weather-sealed body. The viewfinder has a magnification of 0.95X, making it larger than any on a DSLR this small.
This DSLR features an 11-point Phase-Detect AF sensor sensitive to -3 EV. 9 of those points are cross-type. Its mechanical shutter can reach shutter-speeds up to 1/6000s and 5.5 continuous capture. As a first for a Pentax DSLR, the K-S2 also features a rotating 3″ LCD, WiFi and NFC. It even has a second shutter-release to facilitate selfies. Those would probably among the highest quality selfies possible!
Along with the K-S2, Pentax has introduced their HD DAL 18-50mm F/4.5-5.6 DC WR RE lens, the smallest weatherproof lens ever made. This collapsible lens offers a short zoom and narrow maximum apertures in order to keep its size extremely short. It closes down to 41mm and weighs a mere 158g.
The Pentax K-S2 is scheduled to be available next month for $699 USD. While the Pentax HD DAL 18-50mm F/4.5-5.6 DC WR RE will ship the same month for $299 USD. In Canada, they will be available as a kit for $899 CDN.
