Nikon takes the Coolpix series to an entirely new level with the launch of the A. The all-new Nikon Coolpix A is a compact camera that packs a 16 megapixels APS-C CMOS sensor behind a fixed 28mm-equivalent F/2.8 lens. The sensor used in the Coolpix A has the same size of the one on the high-end Nikon D7000 DSLR except that it omits the anti-alias filter for even greater sharpness.
As a premium compact digital camera, the A features full manual controls including manual focus via a fly-by-wire focus ring, custom white-balance and spot metering. It also becomes the slimmest fixed-lens camera to sport a hot-shoe. This one accepts flashes from Nikon’s Creative Lighting System or an optional Optical Tunnel Viewfinder with 90% coverage lines.
The Nikon Coolpix A promises to bring unprecedented image-quality for to incredibly slim form-factor. It is scheduled to ship next month for a suggested price of $1099 USD or $1149 CDN. In a hurry? Both Adorama and B&H Photo are currently taking pre-orders.
